Data Backup Guide

Would it not be easy to skip the backup step in the computer repair process? It is possible, all you have to do is sign up with an online backup provider, install their software and select all the data you want to backup, before your computer crashes off course. Online backup has many advantages over a local backup on an external hard disk.

In every scenario discussed on our website, chances are you have to backup your data for the simple reason that you have to reinstall your windows. If you reinstall windows, it is advisable to format the partition of your hard drive where you will install windows so you are absolutely sure no trash is left behind. You also want to make sure that your system is error free.

There are two ways to backup or copy your data when your computer does not start. One way involves opening up your PC, the other booting with a bootable CD and copying the data to another location. You will have to copy the data that is on your windows partition elsewhere so you can format it to reinstall Windows.

Copy the data to another location can be:

1. Another partition on the same hard disk (One physical hard disk can contain two or more logical disks. A logical disk is what you see appearing under windows as a C:\ or D:\ or any letter depending on your configuration.)
2. Another physical internal hard disk in your PC
3. An external USB hard disk
4. Another hard disk in another PC

If your computer is still under warranty and it has a warranty seal, you are better of booting with a BartPE disk to copy the data.

If you do not mind opening your computer, try to backup the data by removing the hard disk and connecting it to another computer with a ATA to USB converter
