Scenario 2: All you hear is a series of beeps
There is a piece of software on your motherboard in your PC, called the BIOS, that does a “power on self test” or POST. If there is a problem with your hardware it will produce a series of beeps that helps you determine what hardware is defunct or badly connected.
First determine what BIOS software you have, next check what the beeps mean.
If you're unsure as to which BIOS you have, you can find out by restarting your system. On restart, the BIOS information will be displayed almost immediately.
Your screen will display a phrase like "PhoenixBIOS" or "AMI BIOS," followed by a copyright date. There is also a series of letters and numbers. These letters and numbers indicate the BIOS version you have on your system.
If you know your brand or Bios software manufacturer you can go to http://www.bioscentral.com/ and check what the beeps mean.
Please refer to the hardware problem module if you are stuck with broken hardware.
